Act will help save Wellington Dam

Two-page article discusses the increasing salinity of rivers and catchment areas having been highlighted by an Act to save the Wellington Dam from becoming too salty for irrigation and domestic use. The Country Areas Water Supply Amendment Act will allow the State Government to control land clearing in the Wellington Dam catchment area. Under the Act, a licence will need to be obtained for land clearing and the licence will be subject to conditions and variations. The licences will be issued by the Public Works Department. The Act allows compensation for owners adversely affected by a refusal to grant a licence, the cancellation of a licence or the imposition of unacceptable conditions.
