An unusually wet season highlighted several critical failings in Esperance land management planning. The issues related to drainage, with insufficient permanent waterways and poorly constructed drainage channels. The region saw lots of overflow and flooding from drainage channels that were graded incorrectly and dug far too narrow. Department of Agriculture officer in charge Allan Herbert was optimistic that with sensible planning, the region could reclaim most of the gullies.
