The object of study of this paper is a sub-corpus of the English Comparable Corpus, which consists of original and translated articles published in The Guardian and The European. The lexical set analysed comprises Europe, European, European Union, EU and Union. The study draws primarily on corpus-based critical linguistics. Together with Kemppanen's investigation of keywords in translated and non-translated Finnish history works (Kemppanen 2000, 2001), it opens up a new area of research in descriptive corpus studies of translation
