Prijevod s komentarima s naglaskom na kulturno-specifične pojmove

This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (The Establishment: And How They Get Away With It, Making Minds: What’s Wrong With Education – and What Should We Do About It? and Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age), and two from Croatian into English (Ekološki otisak: Kako je razvoj zgazio održivost and Iran u prezentu). The commentary focused on culture-specific items and strategies used to translate them. Culture-specific items do not exist in the culture of the target language, so the translator must propose the most fitting interpretation of what is expressed in the source text. Choosing adequate translation strategies is vital for providing clear and faithful translation equivalents.Rad se sastoji od pet prijevoda s popratnim komentarima. S engleskog jezika na hrvatski prevedeni su ulomci iz triju knjiga (The Establishment: And How They Get Away With It, Making Minds: What’s Wrong With Education – and What Should We Do About It? i Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age), a s hrvatskog na engleski prevedeni su ulomci iz dviju knjiga (Ekološki otisak: Kako je razvoj zgazio održivost i Iran u prezentu). Komentari su usmjereni na kulturno-specifične pojmove i strategije koje se koriste kod prevođenja istih. Kulturno-specifični pojmovi ne postoje u kulturi ciljnog jezika pa prevoditelj mora predložiti najprikladniju interpretaciju onoga što je izraženo u izvornom tekstu.
