Prijevod s komentarima s naglaskom na kulturno specifične pojmove

This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour by Kate Fox, Sociology Beyond Societies: Mobilities for the Twenty-first Century by John Urry, The Age of Living Machines: How Biology Will Build the Next Technology Revolution by Susan Hockfield) and two from Croatian into English (Spomenici otoka Lopuda od antike do srednjeg vijeka by Maja Zeman and Ivana Tomas, Nasmijati psa i sedam novih priča by Olja Savinčević Ivančević ). The commentary focused on the problems encountered while translating culture-specific items (idioms, concepts and terms which do not exist in the target culture, pop culture references), with special emphasis on the strategies used and the possible solutions considered during the process.Rad se sastoji od pet prijevoda s komentarima. Ulomci iz triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog jezika na hrvatski jezik (Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour autorice Kate Fox, Sociology Beyond Societies: Mobilities for the Twenty-first Century autora Johna Urryja, The Age of Living Machines: How Biology Will Build the Next Technology Revolution autorice Susan Hockfield), dok su s hrvatskog na engleski prevedeni ulomci iz dviju knjiga (Spomenici otoka Lopuda od antike do srednjeg vijeka autorica Maje Zeman i Ivane Tomas, Nasmijati psa i sedam novih priča autorice Olje Savinčević Ivančević). U komentarima je naglasak stavljen na probleme s kojima se susreće pri prevođenju kulturno specifičnih pojmova (idioma, koncepata i termina koji ne postoje u ciljnoj kulturi, elemenata iz popularne kulture), a poseban je naglasak stavljen na korištene strategije i moguća alternativna prijevodna rješenja razmotrena tijekom prevođenja
