Prijevod s komentarima s posebnim naglaskom na eksplikaciju u prijevodima

This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (The Establishment: And how they get away with it by Owen Jones, Making Minds: What's wrong with education – and what should we do about it? by Paul Kelley and Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age by Sherry Turkle,) and two from Croatian into English (Ekološki otisak - kako je razvoj zgazio održivost by Dražen Šimleša and Iran u prezentu by Ivan Đogić.) The commentary focused on explication in translation in the sense of making an implicit feature of the source text explicit in the target text. The implicit meaning of the source text was sometimes derived from shared cultural knowledge in the source culture, which needed to be made explicit if not shared by the target culture. In other instances, omission was used in the source text which may not have worked as well in the target text, either syntactically, or because it produced a vague or confusing sentence. Additionally, explication was used to improve the readability of the translated text and produce a better sentence flow.Ovaj rad sadrži pet prijevoda s komentarima. Isječci iz triju knjiga prevedeni su s engleskog na hrvatski jezik (Owen Jones, The Establishment: And how they get away with it, Paul Kelley, Making Minds: What's wrong with education – and what should we do about it? i Sherry Turkle, Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age), te iz dvaju s hrvatskog na engleski jezik (Dražen Šimleša, Ekološki otisak - kako je razvoj zgazio održivost i Ivan Đogić, Iran u prezentu). U komentarima je poseban naglasak stavljen na eksplikaciju u prijevodima, u smislu iskazivanja implicitnih značajki izvornog teksta na eksplicitan način u prijevodu. Implicitno je značenje izvornog teksta ponekad proizlazilo iz kulturološkog znanja u izvornoj kulturi, što je bilo potrebno eksplicitno navesti u prijevodu ako kao takvo nije postojalo u ciljnoj kulturi. U drugim slučajevima u izvornom tekstu korišteno je izostavljanje dijelova rečenice što u prijevodu ne bi funkcioniralo sintaktički ili bi rezultiralo nejasnom i zbunjujućom rečenicom. Također, eksplikacija se koristila kako bi prevedeni tekst bio čitljiviji te kako bi se postigao bolji tok rečenice
