Although common to several figures, the anthroponym Cornutus also belonged to the renowned Byzantine didactic, grammarian, writer, and literary critic. The available translation attributed to (Ps.) Lucius Annaeus Cornutus, Epitome of Greek Theological Traditions is here preceded by some summary considerations. Several aspects are analyzed, such as fonts, style, and transmission of the book. The stoic philosopher of the first century AD extends his etymological exposition and allegorical examination of gods and traditional Greek mythology to various cultural aspects, such as exegesis of traditional Greek mythology, Hellenization(s), language, religion, philosophy(-ies), education. This ethical opusculum is not based on linguistic naturalism. It conveys more than one etymology, referring to the insights of ancient poets expressed in the form of mythological stories. For now, the considerations regarding Cornutus and this work translated into Portuguese is sectioned in two portions. O estoico do século I estende a sua exposição etimológica e análise alegórica relativa a deuses e à mitologia tradicional grega a diversos aspetos culturais, como exegese da mitologia tradicional grega, helenização, língua, religião, filosofia(s), educação. Opúsculo ético, não se fundamenta em um naturalismo linguístico. Deixa em aberto mais do que uma etimologia, referindo perceções de vários poetas antigos expressas na forma de histórias mitológicas. Por ora, as considerações respeitantes a Cornuto e a obra em causa vertida em língua portuguesa seccionam-se em duas porções, seguindo neste número da publicação Rónai apenas a primeira parte da tradução
