This article seeks to briefly analyze the sociocultural aspects of a literary translation, as well as to offer a condensed overview of the methods and challenges faced in the translation of literary texts, based on the translation concepts and methods of theorists such as: Bassnett (2002), Derrida (2001), Furlan (1998), Gentzler (1990), Lefevere (2003), Munday (2001), Nida (1991), Oittinen (2002), Ricouer (2006) e Venuti (2004). We also offer a concise study of translation and the cultural-linguistic implications faced by the literary translator. Aspects of the original texts that “get lost” in an adaptation or translation will be analyzed, giving special emphasis to the concepts of domestication and foreignization to better meet the needs ...
