8 The Minutes of September 28 meeting were approved. 9. A joint statement was read by the Chairperson 1973/74 regarding the letter of June 12, 1974, (See attached,) 10. It was moved that the Faculty concurs fully with the following passages in the letter dated June 12, 1974, signed by Drs. Nelson and Kazziha and addressed to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees MThe Faculty is aware of the efforts being made by the Board to find a suitable person to assume the presidency over the coming years. It is also aware of the difficulty of the task and the time it may take to find just the right person. Its present concern is not primiarily for the future, but for finding an interim solution for the coming academic year. Clearly the Faculty is affected by the instability which arises from the present situation............... "We (i.e. the signatories) convey to the Board their desire (i.e. the Faculty’s) to have Cecil Byrd names as President for the academic year 1974-75. This would stabilize (sic.) things here for the time being and give the Board time to make a wise decision about a permanent appointment." However, since the letter referred to was sent without consultation with and sanction by the Faculty as a whole, that body wishes to express regret that the proper procedures for ensuring Faculty participation in the selection of a president, agreed upon by both the Faculty and the Board of Trustees, as reported by President Byrd to the Faculty, were not followed in this instance and wish that this motion be communicated to the Board of Trustees. 11. A motion to table was defeated. 12. The original motion was voted upon and defeated: 28 for and 53 against. 13. The meeting adjourned at 12:20 p.m
