Next Priorities in Programs, (Gadalla, Bishay, Johnson, Steadman). a) Is 1000 undergraduates and 500 graduates a reasonable maximum target within present program and scale of operation? Is the ratio correct? b) In what fields or processes can AUC contribute uniquely to UAR higher education? c) VJhat further steps should be taken to harmonize graduate and undergraduate programs for maximum use of resources and for maximum total impact? d) Should any of the following fields be considered as possible new programs? (i) archeaology (If) communications (!ii) hotel management fiv) petrochemicals (v) Arabic-English translators program e) Should steps be taken to expand publishing and press work, e.g. should a journal of Egyptian studies drawing material from our graduate programs be established (this would require a significant editorial staff.) f) Increased means for professional auc? communication with colleagues outside f>i'U' Development of African programs and relationships. Reducing Departmental Academic Barriers: (Gerhauser, Tadros, Hitami, Williams, Perry) a) Middle East studies, possibly as a one-year supplement to existing degree programs and drawing on offerings of several departments. b) Special programs combining scientific education with economics or management to prepare future industrial managers. c) Sharing of staff members between departments and programs in order to avoid duplication in offerings and in special professional qualifications. /I
