(a) The optimum organisation would depend to a great extent on the growth plan for AUC. The Committee felt the need for a definition of objectives and priorities in order to structure the most suitable organisation. (b) The possibility of uniting Sociology/Anthropology, Psychology, Economics, Political Science, in a division of Social Sciences, and English and the English Language Institute and A.rabic Studies in a division of Language and humanities (and presumably a corresponding division of Sciences and Engineering roughly corresponding to the existing department). (c) The possibility of the Management Program ending its administrative attachment to the Department of Economics and Political Science. The Management Program is large (174 students) has a special clientelle and its purpose is professional. While keeping the current name the program should perhaps have the status of a department, enabling the director of the program to have direct access to the Dean. (d) Throughout its deliberations the Committee has been conscious of the need to retain certain unit autonomy so that each unit can share meaningfully in the initiative and approval of staffing, budgeting, curriculum design and program evaluation
