2 1554 ftflAflT-iiji-AiJ& The President reported the receipt of notice from the Ministry of Education that the sum of L.E.100 would be accorded to the i American University at Cairo on account of the students in its Government Secondary classes (application of same)* It was agreed to report to Mr. Lum that following past procedures one half of this amount should be reserved for scholarships. ^5555 LOHDON MATrilCULATiQft EjUMILATIOKG * The President reported receipt through Mr. Engert of the American Legation of a letter dated April 20th from Mr. Arthur Yoncken of the Residency indicating! that the London University authorities ..ere willing to open to non-British oandicates the London Matriculation examinations in -^gypt and stating that th| Residency was continuing to presB for the recognition of the British degrees in Egypt as equivalent to the Egyptian 3accalaureat. The President reported I a further conversation with Mr. Yencken lipon this subject indicating that the negotiations had not reached a complete conclusion. 1556 SAILER GIFT : The President reported a letter from J>r. Roller favoring the application of a portion (approximately LE. SI.400) of his contribution to the department of Education toward the publication expenses of small edition of Mr. Galt’s doctoral thesis, the balanoe of the cost being carried by Mr. Galt, and it was voted to authorize the issuance of this dissertation with the imorematur ’’Teachers* College, The American University at Cairo, Cairo, Agyot, 1935”. The University is to receive 125 paper covered copies and 225 copies with 3tiff cardboard covers. These copies will bo turned over to the bookstore for such sales as they may be able to effect or arrange for, the income from sales to be added to the Sailer Fund. 1557 .SALARY REST01UT10L5 : A letter was read from Mr. Lum quoting the approval of the Finance Committee in America to the proposal (see Minute 1508) of Council that ^2500 be allowed toward the restoration during the year 1935-36 of salary cuts voluntarily accepted by members of the staff whether American or non- American. Council reviewed a list of those who would be entitled to this restoration of salary reductions and referred to the Finance Committee the matter of making effective these restorations as approved by Souncil. .•feRGMNGY AUTHORITY ; The President and i~r.
