REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT The report of President Watson for the FOR 1937-38 year 1937-38 was circulated at the time of the regular meeting in November 1935, and its suggested actions were taken up by the various committees. Dr. Hill omitted its reading in order that there might be more time for the report of the Secretary who had just re-turned from Egypt. (Appendix A). 385. REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE Mr. Lum, Secretary of the Board, who SECRETARY visited Cairo for three weeks in November, read his report to the Board (Appendix B). The following action was taken: 1 THAT the very complete report of the Secretary be received and filed, and, further THAT the generous offer of Mr. Frackelton be accepted to pay for the printing of one thousand copies to be circulated among the University constituency in America. . 386. RECESS FOR COM- At 11:30 A.M. the Board adjourned to MITTEE MEETINGS meet as committees until the luncheon hour. 357. LUNCHEON At one o'clock luncheon was served. This was followed by a very enlightening talk by Dr. Lyle Spencer, dean of the School of Journalism of Syracuse University who spent one semester as professor of journalism in the American University at Cairo in the spring of 1937. He gave his impressions of the University from the standpoint of a college executive. The points stressed by him were the public relations work being done by the University in a Mohammedan community which was producing results for the general cause of foreign missions; the necessity of moving to the suburban site if the College is to continue to occupy a place of leadership; and, third, the need for publicity and public relations work on the part of the University both in Egypt and America. For twenty minutes following the luncheon, Mr. Lum showed some color-ed moving pictures taken during his recent trip to Egypt. These were views of the various departments of the University, of the suburban site, and of a colorful pageant when King Farouk opened Parliament in November 1938. 388.
