3568 - SELECTION OF1 A NEW PRESIDENT: The Chairman reported on nego- tiations proceeding with Dr. Charles D. Cremeans. He had met the Committee on the Selection of a New President, the Education Committee, and, recently, the Finance Committee. He had also had an interview with Dr. Horton. All .the committees that have met him have agreed to recommend him to the Board of Trustees at their meeting on April 2. If he accepts to have his name presented and is elected, he may fly out for the month of May and then return and bring out his family in the fall. This news is strictly confidential. 3569 - SCHOOL OF ORIENTAL STUDIES: It was voted that the Adminis- trative Faculty of the School of Oriental Studies, after Mr. Beck leaves on March 13, be organized as follows for the balance of the academic year: Dr. Cleland - Chairman, Dr. Butrus Abdel Malek - Executive Secretary. 3570 - DEGREE IN HOME ECONOMICS: Council voted to approve in prin- ciple the working out of an arrangement between the University and the American College for Girls for granting credits for a B.Sc. Degree in Home Economics, based upon a four-year course, subject to approval by the Board of Trustees, details to be worked out between the Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences and Dr. Helen J. Martin of the American College for Girls. 3571 - COMMENCEMENT PLANS: With regard to an Egyptian speaker for the next 'Commencement, it was voted to invite Dr. Mohamed. Tewfik Younis, Auditor General of Egypt, and a member of A.U.C.’s first graduating class. Mr. Beck suggested that we consider having a baccalaureate service the Sunday before Commencement. After discussion, the matter was referred to Dean Howard to study and make recommendations . 3572 - ABSENCE OF ACTING PRESIDENT: Dr. Cleland announced that he would be away from Cairo from March 6 to 13 to attend the Fourth Social Welfare Seminar of the Arab States in Baghdad.
