Minutes of Council Nov. 22nd, 1930. ift present - Dr. Watson (in chairO, McClenahan, ClelancL, Parker, Galt, Vandersall, Jeffery. Dr. Watson opened with Prayer. $ Property Committee - Chairman of Property Copnittee presented Minutes of Meeting of Nov.1st reporting the transaction of routine business. $ issue with Government over College Students - It was reported that the Ministry of Education had sent a request that two students received by the ADC College from among students dismissed from a Government School for nationalistic demonstrations should be dismissed. Mr.Galt, collaborating with Dr.Watson, had acknowledged receipt of the letter and had pointed out that the College had received fyifa not two but four such students, that these had been admitted before the College had received the Governments list of dismissed students, that since that time some thirty students had been refused admission, but that in respect to the four students referred to the situation was complicated by a contractual responsibility in relation to them which the College had assumed and that for this reason the question would have to be referred to the Council of AUC. Council then discussed the question further and the following points were brought out: (a) that the University*s uniform policy is to cooperate with the existing and accredited Government in all reasonable requests; (b) that the University must not be influenced by caisiderations of favors received through Government grants; (c)that a perusal of the Decree of the Council of Ministers referred to in the letter of Ministry of Education (#147-1-110, July 23, 1928) makes no reference to students dismissed from Government schools being excluded from other schools; (di that it might be questioned whether the request for the dismissal-of these students might not be a case of political persecution; (e)that we do not know whether the Min. of Educ. is really desirous that the students be expelled or whether it is simply acquiescing in a political situation; (f) that Maitre Misrahy is preparing a legal opinion as to the University*s contractual obligations, but that we tknow that he declares that these are binding. For these and other reasons final action was deferred and the letter already I sent was approved. 11 Amir Effendi - Chairman reported that word had been received fron America confirming the appointment of Amir Eff.
