HILL >86 ADJOURNMENT The Counoil of the American University at Cairo met on I October 17th, 1925 with Dr. Watson presiding. The followiil were present: Watson, McClenahan, Cleland, Lie niiston, j Jeffery* Mr. McQhiston opened the meeting with prayer. I Minutes of the meeting of September 26th were approved as I typed. I The following resolution, agreed to informally by members I of the Council, in the absence of a regular meeting, was I adopted* "That the operation of the proposed Social Service! Center, for which special funds have been provided, be I officially committed to the University Extension Department! The Chairman of the Property Committee reported action 1 on routine business connected with repairs to and inspectioa of property, telephone assignments, servant’s wages, and care of typewriters. The report was received and filed. The Chairman of the Finance Committee reported negative I! action on the request of Mrs. Richards for summer vacation salary, and also reported arrangements permitting members of the permanent staff to sign orders for gas for the automobiles. He also presented recommendations for the approval of the contract with Sheikh Ibrahim Abu Hassan and for the 1 refund of fees to Mahmud Fahny. These recommendations were approved and the report was received and filed. Mr. Cleland reported progress in negotiations with the Trustees in America for the ap roval of plans for the Auditorium, but further correspondence is still sending. A reconraendation was submitted from the S.O.S. Faculty to the effect that it would be a convenience to the S.O.S. administration if Mr. Jeffery’s furlough were postponed a year. Mr. Cleland and Dr. McClenahan were asked to bring to the next meeting a report on the whole question of furloughs of Staff. It was agreed that a letter of thanks be sent to Dr. Hill in appreciation of his gift to the S.O.S. Library of a set of the American Journal of Semitic Languages and Literature. Council adjourned
