It was agreed that the entire Board must decide on what level AUC should commit its expertise to developing technical and junior college programs since the answers have future implications on AUC's long-range goals, image and reputation. 6. Progress Report on the Director of CIT Dr. Brown is currently interviewing for the new Director of CIT. A list of the six final candidates for the position were presented to the Committee for their information. 7. Heliopolis Adult Education Building The negotiations for purchase of a building approved by the Board in March 1989, have again fall through. The uncertainty of location from year to year has demoralized the faculty and staff at the Heliopolis Center. Dr. Pedersen reported that CACE is now thinking of attempting to arrange for purchase of a property through an agent. 8. Appointment of Project Manager Mr. Marston Morgan has been hired as Project Manager. A brief summary of his background was presented to the Committee for their reading. 9. Miscellaneous Mr. Hyde commented on the March 1989 minutes which recorded Dr. Eilts' concern that AUC's outreach service programs might be getting ahead of themselves and that AUC may not be able to maintain its quality. This is of great concern to him also, and he asked Dr. Pedersen how far AUC extension would go. Dr. Pedersen replied that the institution has expanded to about as far as it plans to in the near future within Egypt. He sees the only growth now to be when AUC is approached by the Egyptian universities or institutions to provide special services. The situation outside of Egypt, however, is different. CACE has potential to grow in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States. However, he cautioned, we must first pause and think of the direction we want to go in the future. We must clearly answer this first
