ATTACHMENT C STEWARDSHIP REPORT TO THE Aue BOARD OF TRUSTEES CENTER FOR ADULT AND COBTINUIBG EDUCATION SEPTEMBER I, 1980 - AUGUST 31, 1986 by Ralph Nelson Dean of Adult Education The Center for Adult and Continuing Education (CACE) of the American University in Cairo was established in November 1980. It is comprised of the (1) Division of Public Service (DPS), (2) Division of Comme rc i al and Industrial Training (CIT), and (3) University Press. The mission of CACE as approved by the Long Range Planning Committee in 1981 is a s fo:lo~s: The Mission of the Center for Adult and Cont inui!1g Educa tio~. , comprised of the Division of Public Service, Division of Com ­mercial and Industrial Training and the University Press, is to provide opportunities for the people of Egypt, the Middle East, and the world to fulfill their l earning needs. Specifi­cally the Division of Public Service provides regularly scheduled educational courses in Egypt; Division of Commercial and Industrial Training provides speci a lized and flexible edu­cational programs to assist the development of the public and private sectors of the Middle East; and the University Press encourages, edits and arranges for the publication of materials on the Middle East for world wide distribution. The Center also conducts research and program evaluation so as to contin­ually improve program quality and effectiveness and remain responsive to changing educational needs. It is also the goal of the Center to maintain an efficient operation so as to contribute to the financial strength of the American University in Cairo. The CACE goals were to (1) develop a managerial system to provide the highest quality product and service within the available resources (2) increase the scope of activity and the variety of program offerings (3) improve the quality of the educational services, (4) contribute to the financial strength of the University, and (5) increase the acceptance of CACE activity as an integral part of the University. . .. /2
