Mrs. Wafeyya Hassani, an AUC alumna will be working part-time in the U.S. to support both development and alumni activities. Inaugurating an Alumni Fund Drive, Ms. Mary Iskander will be travelling to Jordan, Kuwait, Greece and England over the next few months. Over 85 corporations are now supporting AUC, up from 25 before the campaign. It was suggested that Trustees should receive a statement at the end of each calendar year of what they have paid on their pledges and what is due. In addition, it was suggested that Trustees and alumni send letters to their congressmen and senators in support of maintaining the current tax law with respect to charitable deductions. Dr. Pedersen reported that the University has received tax-free status from Canada. 7. Report of the Alumni & Student Affairs Committee: Mrs. Harmon. Mrs. Harmon reported that the minimum score on the Thanawiyya Aroma Examination for new freshman increased from 84.25 to 86. Of the currently enrolled students, 65.5% are local entrants and 34.5% foreign. The percentage of male students in AUC undergraduate programs is increasing. The total enrollment in University programs (excluding DPS) has increased from 2499 to 2602 with the percentage of female versus male students now standing at 58% versus 42%, but demand for places in the Arabic Language Unit has fallen off due to increased competition from other institutions. It was decided that greater effort would be exerted to attract students from the Middle East. Vice President Allam is expected to be actively engaged in recruitment activities and a film for use in student recruiting would be created or adopted from existing footage. Last year AUC women took first place among the universities in Egypt in individual and team sports competition. In December 1984, at a cultural festival sponsored by an AUC student organization and attended by the head of the Egyptian Youth and Sports Organization, AUC students took top honors in choral music, folk dancing, and creative writing. AUC held its first annual Internationl Day, with 14 national/cultural groups represented. The activity was covered by several Cairo newspapers and magazines. From the end of February until the end of March a wide variety of sporting events will take AUC students to Alexandria and Assiut
