• • 8. • Board of Trustees -5- March 14, 1985 The decision to move the Women's Hostel to the Falaki Street site and the Men's Hostel to Zamale~ was smoothly implemented this fall. There is still not enough hostel space to accommodate all the women seeking University housing and vacant apartments have had to be used for the overflow. On April 19th & 20th over 1000 AUC alumni and their familjes will visit the campus for the fourth annual AUC Alumni Weekend. During the weekend the Distinguished Alumni Awards will be announced and a formal dinner will be held at the Nile Hilton. Funds raised over this weekend will bi used to provide scholarships to needy students. Mrs. Mubarak has asked the International Alumni Council to help provide support for libraries in some of Cairo's poorest communities and the Council has decided to do so. With the help of AUC's Computer Center, Alumni Office records and records of the Alumni Council will be computerized. At the end of Mrs. Harmon's report, Mr. Hedlund informed the Board that Mrs. Harmon would be leaving the Board as an active member. He extended thanks to Mrs. Harmon and the Weyerhaeuser family for their generous support of the Hill House renovation. The Board unanimously supported the naming of Mrs. Harmon as an Honorary Trustee and expressed the hope that another member of the Weyehaeuser family could be found to carryon the tradition of Weyerhaeuser representation on the Board. In addition, the Board asked that a resolution be drafted honoring the work of Mrs. Peggy Harmon on behalf of AUC. Report of the Campus Planning & Housing Committee: Mr. Bacon. Mr. Bacon reported that the renovation of Hill House was behind schedule with approximately 95% of the exterior completed and 85% of the interior. The first stage of the Jameel Center bidding process has been completed with the three responding companies coming in higher than anticipated ($6.5 million). The new dormitory scheduled for construction on the 2900 sq meter Zamalek site is expected to house 320 students. The University Educational Endowment Fund owns the site and the means of transferring title to the Universiy are under consideration. The best means of transfer appears to be to lease the land to the University for 49 years with the rights to build at a modest annual rental fee. This process is expected to be completed within 6 weeks. At the same time, the process of transferring title to the University will be pursued. In order to build additional faculty housing on vacant land the University owns in Maadi, $2.0 million has been set aside. Actua
