There are various ways, including increasing the number of students, decreasing the student-faculty ratio, increasing the teaching loads of faculty and increas- . ing the number of students who pay the higher dollar tuition. AUB raises dollars by obtaining underwriting for certain courses from certain countries in the area. Accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and .Schools is proceeding and congratulations to President Pedersen are in order for moving this ahead. The Desert Research program is moving ahead and the Middle East Founda-tion recently provided a consultant and thanks is due to them. The main conclusion of the consultant is that the program should concentrate on applied research. Honorary degrees - The Committee felt that two awards per year would be worthwhile but there should be further discussion as to the recipients and that no honorary degree should be tendered before full Board consideration. A MOTION was duly made, seconded and passed by the Board approving in principle a concept of awarding honorary degrees, subject to further study by the Trustees. Faculty Salary Levels - Upon recommendation of the Academic Committee the following MOTION was made, seconded and passed by the Board: Because of differences in ta xation, local benefits, housing and other factors beneficial compensation cannot be compared directly from the above scales to salaries either in Egypt or in other jurisdictions. It is the Board of Trustees' policy objective that, when such factors are taken into account, beneficial compensation for overseas faculty should be .in the middle range of that of comparable universities in the U.S. with corresponding increases in compensa­tion for local faculty to those of overseas faculty. Compensation scales are periodically reviewed with a view to accomplishing the Board's objectives
