January 10, 1966 THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIRO Proposal for Faculty Study and Research Grants It is recommended that grants in an amount not to exceed the equivalent of twelve hundred dollars in Egyptian pounds or other currencies be given to Faculty members who submit acceptable study and research project proposals and whose grants can be accommodated within the total amount of ftands available. Additional amounts not to exceed the equivalent of five hundred dollars may be granted to help cover travel and maintenance costs of immediate family members who are to accompany the Faculty member in those cases where travel outside Egypt is necessary. A, The objectives of these grants are as follows; 1 - To serve as a means of improving teaching and research standards of individual faculty members. 2 - To enable Faculty members to keep in touch with colleagues and developments in their special fields. 3 - To serve as an aid in attracting new Faculty. 4 • To reward and otherwise encourage professional level Faculty members on a merit basis. B* Criteria for the awarding of grants may include one or more of the following; 1 * The quality of the plan submitted, including; a, how fully it is developed b, its feasibility in terms of both availability of required data and of time to complete it. c, its potential value to academic work at AUC. 2/..
