Of this amount $584,489.46 has been paid in, in cash, leaving a balance of $5,900,300.00 in commitments yet to be paid. Recent gifts of interest include: $157,875 from the Ford Foundation to support the English Lang-uage Institute. $35,050 from Trustees. $15,000 from various foundations. $3,500 to the Chris Thoron Memorial Fund. $5,000 from an individual who attended the Trustee's trip to Cairo. December is traditionally a quiet month with foundations, and we sub­mitted (through Chuck Hedlund) a proposal to the Teagle Foundation, and received word that the Earl C. Sams Foundation could not make a grant this year. We have resumed submitting proposals to foundations in Jan­uary, and will continue them throughout the year. In the weeks to come, we expect to accelerate our approaches to corporat­ions. In this and in the foundation approaches, we hope to call on you for any help you can provide.
