The recreation program included the organization of sports activities for the men, games for the chil-dren, and a self-help knitting program for the women. 1 In addition to its own relief program, the University partici-pated actively in the relief program of the Adviscry Council for Relief Efforts in Egypt. The Council was composed of representa-tives from the Near East Council of Churches, the American Friends of the Middle East, the Catholic Relief Service, the Y.M.C.A., the Y .W. C A. , the Orthodox, Evangelical and Coptic Churches, and the American University at Cairo. President McLain acted as Chairman of the Council. This council was organized in order to coordinate the relief programs of the various composing members and to present a united appeal for relief aid to organizations and individuals abroad. Throughout its program the Advisory Council worked in close cooperation with the Egyptian Government, especially the Ministry of Social Affairs. The Government greatly facilitated the work of the Council by helping determine the areas of need and decide on the allocation of goods, and by offering free transporta-tion for all relief contributions received from abroad or bought locally. The following is what the Advisory Council, with the help of its counterpart in the United States, the Emergency Committee for the Relief of Egyptian War Victims, was able to accomplish° 1. Large shipments of used clothing, medicine and other re-lief equipment were received and cleared for distribution in Port Said and the Sinai area. 3751 bales of clothing 222 bags of shoes 42 boxes of layettes, school supplies, toys, etc. 2 ton vitamins 101 packages of medical supplies 1 ton blood packs 5 cartons artificial limbs 1558 cases of corn syrup 1 water pump for El Arish area. 2. Cash contributions were received in the amount of LE,16,046.801. This money made it possible for the Council to meet specific and immediate needs promptly. It was used as follows
