There is a sum of v2,000 earmarked for kitchen kits to be purchased by the Councils Through Father Gohargui of Catholic Relief Service, the Vatican contributed 1,000 tents which have been delivered to Port Said. Other Relief Pro•rams of Member Groups: Some of the units have carried individual relief programs. The YWCA has offered volunteers to do case work among Port Said refugees in collaboration with the linistry of Social Affairs. The XMCA is running a work camp to help rebuild roads and facilities in Port Said, and has also carried a recreational program in the refugee camps outside Port Said and is currently in the process of organiz-ing a program in the camps inside Port Said. American University at Cairo has been carrying on a relief program since the beginning of hostilities. It organized a sewing center to make clothing for the refugees, and set up a blood bank on the campus with the cooperation of the Ministry of Health. It contributed money tl the government relief program. It organized a self—help knitting program in some of the refugee camps outside Port Said, and collaborated with the YMCA on its re-creational program and contributed the sports equipment and the children's social games for the program. All the work was done in cooperation with the £'iinistry of Social Affairs. Present Refugee Needs: The Port Said and Sinai people will be in need of help for many months to come. Food, clothing, shelter, and medical care are the most urgent and imme-diate needs; but 'ther-ai tre . other neods9 cif long—term rehabilitation programs are considered, In Sinai there are people whose work equipment has been destroyed and who need special help to be able to start work again. There are, for example, the fishermen of El Arish whose boats and fishing equipment have been destroyed and who will not be able to replace them without outside help. The government hopes to be able to start small industries suited to the Sinai area, such as the production of castor oil; and to drill wells to supply much—needed water for ir-rigation. For these projects there is need for machinery, such as castor oil squeezers, or well drillers. Recreational programs are needed and, for these, sports equipment and social games for children are necessary. X—ray films and antibiotics have been especially mentioned as needs for the Sinai area The X—ray films are to be used for the screening of the large number of people who have lived for several months under harsh conditions of cold weather, poor shelter
