7o7 OPENING LUNCHEOP' 788 ORGANIZATION The American University at Cairo MINUTES OF THE THIRTY-SEVENTH ANNUAL MEETING of THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES Br onxvi l l e, N.Y. 20-21 January 1956 The meeting was held at Hotel Gramatan, Bronxvi l le , and opened with luncheon with the following trustees, guests and staff present: Messrs. Dirks, Garrett, Harbison, Horton, Jewett, Van Vleck, Mrs. Lloyd, Mrs. Stevenson; also Dr. and Mrs. McLain, Mrs. Dirks, Dr. and Mrs. Boutros Abdel Malek, Mr. Rizk Girgis, Mr. Vandersal 1, Dr. Howard and Miss Lister. Following luncheon the Chairman introduced members of the faculty who are in America at the present time (Dr. Howard, Dr. Boutres Abdel Malek, Mr. Rizk Girgis, and Mr. Vander-sall) and asked each to partioipate in the discussion of the àhanging Middle East setting of the University. Dr. Van Vleck reported enthusiastically and hopefully on con-ditions as he found them on his recent stay in Cairo. Dr. McLain summari zed with the statement that the present tense situation in Egypt is all the more reason for the University to be there and should oause us to strengthen our position. After slight recess, the Chairman called the business meet-- ing to order, declared a quorum present, and opened the meeting with prayer. Trustees present: Messrs . Andrus, Dirks, Garrett, Harbison, Horton, Jewett, Van Vleok, Mrs. Lloyd and Mrs. Stevenson. 789 REPORTS OF OFFICERS Excuses for absence: Messrs. Cleland, Gillespie, Hedke, Erdman, Habaohy, McClenahan, Steele, Weyerhaeuser and Mrs. Oakes. Minutes of the Thirty-sixth Annual Meeting held 12-13 No-vember 1954, and those of the special meeting held on 3-4 June 1955, were approved as circulated. Dr. McLain read the report of the president, and pre-sented the report of the Bursar. Miss Lister presented the report of Comptroller, together with statement of receipts and expenditures for 1954-55 and the pension fund account as of 1 July 1955.
