Appendix to Page 159 (2) Lebanese, Iraqui together give a total of 193 out of 235. It must be admitted that all who are listed as Egyptian may not be truly Arabic speaking. However, great advance has been made in getting all Egyptian Freshmen and Sophomores into appropriate courses of Arabic. Likewise the number of "irregular" students for Arabic in both the American Section of Lincoln School and the Faculty has appreciably diminished. In our Freshman enrollment a grave question continues to be that of English language standard. Candidates qualifie.i by recognized secondary certificates ought to be admissible to the Freshman Class, but, if their English ability is low as in the case of the average Transjordanian, instruction through the medium of English is difficult, if not impossible. To apply a rigid English language test is not a solution, for it might cut off completely a desired stream of students. bore desirable as a test is an intelligence and aptitude gage. The practice of section/UN class on the basis of English ability was con-tinued. Questions arise respecting this policy because cf the tendency to make the "A" section superior-conscious while "C" section has a feeling of being stamped as inferior. Cf course a certain homogeneity has been secured, but the price with respect to attitudes and group spirit may have been too high. At least an experiment will be made with another basis for sectioning next year. Perhaps this is the point at which to record that information recently re-ceived frcm A.U.B. shows that it is adopting an admission policy similar to ours. Whereas holders of the Egyptian Tawgahia, Transjordanian Secondary certificate, London Latrieulation, Oxford and Cambridge and ether secondary certificates have been admitted to the Sophomore class, beginning with October 1551, they will be considered eligible only for the Freshman Class. This is a policy we adopted several years ago. Also we note that a Freshman program somewhat like ours is being developed; although a clear division between Arts students and Science students is made from the beginning of the Freshman year at A.U.B, we propose making only a slight separation beginning with the second semester. (2) The year was marked by a special issue of the Campus Caravan to commemorate twenty-five years of student publications. The issue in the spring appeared as nearly as possible on the anniversary of the appe,rance of first mimeographed copy of the A.U.0 . Review. This special issue had many good features and represented a most excellent effort on the part of Mr. Edmondson and his associates in the Journalism Department as well as the students. The Campus Caravan receives a first rating in the class in which it was entered in t ie ColumMa Scholastic Fress Association, being given 850 points out of a possible 1000. (3) Another feature of the year has been the student exchange between Occidental College and ourselves. William Fore came as the representative from America and Miss Gulnar Djedawi was our representative. Whereas she was a Junior class student, Mr. Fore had finished his Junior year and enrolled in our Senior Class. This made for a certain complication, due to our failure to analyze sufficiently his record at the be4nning of the year. In the end Mr. Fore was awarded a Bachelor's degree on his generally good scholastic record although his actual progran. did not conform to anyone of our sequence patterns. Mr. Fore contribued appreciably to school life during the first semester by his leading of Assembly singing and by his contagious enthusiasm. He live
