Coeducation which began three years ago with the admission of one Egyptian girl and two Americans has now brought eleven to our campus. Dean Galt recommends a general adoption of the coeducational policy, but I suggest that it be regarded still as an experiment until we see more clearly (a) whether for safety we may not need to restrict it to the more mature years of the College grade alone; (b) whether opening our institution to women may not require coordination with other missionary institutions serving vio aen exclusively and better equipped to do so; (c) whether we are prepared to provide that special supervision and those equipments which a large number of women students would certainly require. Coeducation in tae College grades seems already justified but there it is not likely to become the numerical problem that has been mentioned and does not impinge on other mission schools. Looking to the future, Dean Galt makes two interesting proposals which call for further study. One is that the Preparatory Department of the College be developed along the lines of the Viinetka plan. The other is that training for Journalism be featured in the upper years of the College. The aim of the first proposal is to provide better for the great variety of student types now in our Preparatory Department. The second proposal would give to those upper years of College life a practical and vocational significance without destroying the broad cultural values of the course: what isn't there that a worthy journalist ought to know? Among those leaving the College staff this 3 ear are two men who have given themselves very devotedly to their work and in leaving have made an abiding contribution to the development of their Depart ents by setting down in extensive reports their experience and best judgment in the spheres in which they worked. Mr. T. E. Frank who for two years has been in charge of the Religious or Character Training Department of the College has left to his successor a very interesting and suggestive report of 27 typewritten pages and Mr. D. T. Bailey has likewise elaborated in a 19 page report his conclusions and experience in Physical Train-ing. It would require space equal to this entire report to comment upon their findings. The interest of our Trustees is, however, so great in respect to the achievements of our religious courses that I venture at least to quote the following disjointed sentences out of Mr. Frank's report. These comments are by different leaders and relate to as many separate classes: "I could notice the student's great interest in the problems discussed." "It is interesting to note that two of those who objected so strenuously (i.e. Mosles objecting to buying a Bible) are now along the six best and most interested students in the class, while one is far and away the most open-minded on religious questions. "The boys were very keen to give the Moslem version of the lives of some of the prophets we studied. I encouraged them to do it. They asked their best bq' to give the story of Noah as found in the Koran. The comparison was decide y in favor of the Christian version. This had a double effect on them. They became less indifferent and appreciated our stories." "The instructor things that the course has made a lasting i.apression on the lives of more of the students and that it has been helpful for the develop- ,ent of moral character and social responsibility for most of them.
