(2) That owing to the peculiar conditions necessarily exist-ing at the launching of the University, and in the initial stages of its development, the strict application of the rules laid down in the.By-Laws for the government of the University and the admin-istration of its Council and Faculty, be relaxed until the next meeting of the Board of Trustees, and that the President report to the Trustees at that time the method of procedure that has been followed, and that might be recommended. (3) That the Trustees express to Dr. R. S. McClenahan and to his cooperating staff, their grateful appreciation of the splendid reccrd of the initial year in the launching of the College of Arts and Sciences, and thus of the University. His and their devotion, good judgment and tact, patience and courage, have, under the bless-ing of God, given to the start of this project a security and a prestige that are invaluable. (4) That the Committee on Education be authorized to appoint and send out a Professor of Science as soon as a properly qualified person is found and to fill any vacancies that may occur in the Faculty either by resignation or transfer to other work, providing always that the necessary funds are available. (5) That the Trustees of the University express to the Committ-ee• of the Cairo Study Center and the Missions associated in the main-tenance of the Cairo Study Center, their appreciation of the spirit of cooperation and mutual trust shown in the negotiations so success-fully carried forward for the affiliation of the Cairo Study Center with The American University at Cairo, and that the Trustees of the University convey to these agencies the assurance of their accept-ance of the arrangements mutually proposed as outlined in Section 58 of the Minutes of the Fifty-first Annual Meeting of the Egyptian Missionary Association. In doing so, it will be wise to point out that while the Trustees of the University plan to promote earnestly the further development of the School of Oriental Studies, success can only be achieved by the continued cooperation of the Missions in Egypt, whose representatives in the economy in administration and with sacrificial service. Upon such continued cooperation in supplying and supporting teachers as hitherto, therefor9, the Univ-ersity must rely as it assumes on its part the responsibilities of this new undertaking. (6) Resolution: First, that instead of the fixed salaries of $5,000 for the President of the University and of $3,000 for the Principal of the College of Arts and Sciences, there be granted to these two officers the regular salary and allowances granted to the professors with an additional annual allowance of $2,000 to the President of the University and $1,000 to the Principal of the College of Arts and Sciences: Second: That in determining these grants Dr. Watson and Dr. McClenahan be regarded as in their fourth term of service; and Third: that the new arrangements go into effect for Dr. Titson on the date of his sailinL; from AmericE and for Dr. McClenahan on January 1st, 1922
