REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY AT CAIRO For 1926-27 Meetings held: Since the last meeting of the Board of Trustees, three meetings of the Committee on Education have been held, all of them in New York City - on April 19, October 13, and October 21, 1927. The following suimnarr gives the outstanding items upon which action was taken during the year: 1. Appointments to teaching staff 1926-27: Leonard Allen of Colgate University was appointed as a short term teacher of English for a period of three years starting with September 1927, in accord-ance with the contract on file in the Philadelphia. office. Alden G. Greene of Grinnell College was appointed as a short term teacher of Science for a period of three years, starting with September 1927, in accord-ance with the contract on file in the Philadelphia. office. 2. The Committee voted unanimously its approval of the program for the School of Education as outlined by Mr. Galt including the following main points: (a) The issuing of a magazine in Arabic for Egyptian teachers in service. (b) Capitalizing the visits to Egypt of leaders in Education such as Dr. Monroe, etc., by arranl-ing lectures for the teachers of Cairo. (c) Courses at night for teachers in service, with a two year course leading to a B.A. degree, providing the teachers have already graduated from the Government School. Also an apportunity for students in the College Department of the Uni-versity to take these same night courses leading to a B.A. degree in education. 3. The School of Oriental Studies is considering the possibility of granting degrees as follows: (a) The B.A. degree in Oriental Languages to those who already hold a B.A. degree from a bona fide college and successfully complete the three year course of the School of Oriental Studies. (b) The M.A. degree in Oriental Languages to those who hold the B.A. degree in Oriental Languages and successfully complete an additional year in Honor's work. No action is to be taken on this matter until it has been presented to such scholars as Professor MacDonald of Hartford Theological Seminary, Professor Jewett of Harvard, end Professor Margouliuth of Oxford
