Seasonal demand and managing it from the supply chain perspective have not been that much researched in the current literature. There are big challenges and also opportunities related to seasonal demand in the grocery retail. In perishable product categories the excess inventory means usually direct waste and lost profits. On the other hand, when one wants to keep the waste risk at minimum, poor shelf availability potentially leads to lost sales and even losing customer relationships. At best, the success of the entire supply chain helps to strengthen consumer demand without producing deteriorating excess inventories at grocery stores after the season.
