The platform above Cane Bar is part of the open country extending back from the river, in some places several miles, to an irregular line of cliffs standing above the heads of Kane Creek, Navajo Canyon (Historical site 8) and Gunsight Canyon (Historical site 22). These canyons are the principal barrier to travel across the platform. However, one can easily reach Cane Bar from the trail to Navajo Canyon (see Historical site 8) and the Crossing of the Fathers by turning west-northwest from the point where that trail descends into the canyon, and heading both forks of Kane Creek about a half mile above the mouth before each plunges into a narrow slot of a canyon.
