Mile 55 River Map Sheet E left bank; Indian foot trail, 35 steps and hand holds cut into cliff wall providing access to river bar, steps improved by picks, leaning log facilitates use, built up at base of steps. Wildhorse Bar; Mile 55.75 - 58.2 River Map Sheet F, Cummings Mesa quad USGS 1953; probable mining operations at lower end of bar, corral; long bar a natural walled pasture area accessible to Rock Creek and controlled by crude fence at mile 55.75. 28. Klondike Bar (Clondike); mile 65.1 - 66.3 River Map Sheet F, Cummings Mesa quad USGS 1953; site of placer mining operations in the 1880's and by the Chaffin brothers from 1897; placer operations at about 70 ft. above the river, abandoned machinery and tools; dugway and trail in rock at upper end of bar provides access to country above at base of Kaiparowits Plateau. Aztec Creek (West Canyon, Forbidden Canyon, Forbidding Canyon); mouth at mile 68.6 River Map Sheet F, Navajo Mountain quad USGS 1953; known as West Canyon in 1921, Forbidding Canyon in 1922. and as Forbidden Canyon on Navajo Mountain quad USGS 1953, Aztec Creek appears apparently for the first time on River Map Sheet F (1922); drains west side of Navajo Mountain, receives waters of Bridge Creek, access route to Rainbow Bridge, National Monument from Colorado River; the word "Bridge" chipped on cliff wall upstream from mouth of canyon, glyph of bridge and arrow at entrance to canyon from river. 30. Rainbow Bridge; River Map Sheet F, Navajo Mountain quad USGS 1953; known to Indians, recent discovery by whites in 1909, probably at least two decades earlier by prospectors, national monument status in 1910.
