The author telis us about the veneration of Virgin Mary in a town with mixed denominations (Roman Catholic, Ortodox). She presents in details the cult of the copy of the miraculous picture of Our Lady of Czestochowa (Poland) in the Franciscan church of Szabadka (today Subotica, Voyvodina, Yu). From the 18th centruy on the Catohilics in Bácska, Hungarians and Croatians visited more and more Marian shrine: Hajós, Máriagyűd, Doroszló, the holy well of Szabadka. The writer introduces the role of the so called Marian girls in the liturgy and in the everyday religious life
