During the research of murals in the Calvinist church of the village Lónya, a depiction of the Virgin Mary with Robe has been discovered on the northern side of the triumphal arch, which can be considered the earliest example among such historical relics of Hungary. After giving a short outlook on European depictions, I tried to collect murals with similar themes which appeared at the end of the 13th century and at the beginning of the 14lh century in Hungary. Still it was during the 15th century that this depiction really flourished.
