The Convention was chiefly notable in that there were only three really content­ious issues at stake and practically all available time was spent on one of those, viz the Formation of Lafge School Units, both those in existence and those contem­plated. Every district that was getting on well financially were "vehemently” satis­fied to remain a small unit, while those in difficulties were willing to cooperate with someone who could help them. If you saw our last yearly report, you know how we felt. The ma,in objection, however, was really the dictatorial manner in which the units had been formed. People would rather have their own way than to have someone force them to do even the right way, let alone one which is questionable. While the convention (Cont’d, below) King 10 OZ. The most important resolution passed was -Chat asking the government to assume 50$ of the cost of education. Our government has given us only one source of taxation and a utilities board to bond the districts, but during the last 20 years has doubled the re' quirements of education. For instance, we at greatly added expense, while at the same \ time our government grant is decreased. Only one province in Canada aids ite r schools with less money than ours. Quebec provides 9$, ours is 13$. Saskatchewan pay/ 21$ while B. C. 28$, Australia and Sew i Zealand pay 100$ from the government treas-| ury and have' no school trustees, while South Africa pays 58$. The local team have played and defeated every team in the senior league except the Raymond Union Jacks (who .incidentally re­fuse to play Magrath). Magrath and the Lethbridge Aces tangle here on Friday night fans, so oome out and see our town boys play the team that defeat­ed the Union Jacks 41-30. They surely enjoyed her talk — very humorous — she made light of the royalty, ’’the king can do no wrong”. Her topic ”Us the Good Neighbors". She told of the friendly relations between the two countries and of the free trade treaty and its value to Canada, and of the great help Canada receives from the American tourists. She mentioned the United States lack of knowledge concerning Canada and the odd ways in which she had been introduced. After her talk we Canadians went up and shook hands with her. We were surprised -to find her heavily painted; she has^a good voice and is a very striking-looking lady.
