These positions each consist of 2 - 7 3/4 hour shifts every other weekend with the possibility of picking up shifts during the week to cover for other staff. We require a person who is neat, conscient­ious and able to work well with other staff and patients. Previous housekeeping experience or training would be an asset. Assorted styles ... $2 THIS SEASON'S f NEWEST > BLOUSES The General Stewart Branch No. 4 of the Royal Canadian Legion proudly announce the presentation of the Fifth Annual Tattoo and Sunset Ceremony to be held in the Lethbridge Sportsplex on Saturday, May 4th at 7:00 p.m. This colourful spectacular will feature exciting marching performances by such groups as Princess Patricia's Canadian light Infantry Band, the air Command Band of Winnipeg, and of course, our own "Spirit of Alberta" March­ing Band. The finale of the program will be a musical presentation which includes the five marching bands, as well as the massed pipes and drums from five of the top pipe bands from Alberta and Minitoba. Mr. Chatwin, Magrath School's Bandmaster, will again be serving as musical director, and reports this year's show will provide just under two hours of colourful and ex­citing music and military precision, includ­ing a flashy performance by Magrath's Spirit of Alberta band and Flag Girls. Tickets are $3.00 and may be obtained from Mr. Chatwin at the school or from any Spirit member. MAGRATH GARDEN CLUB Wednesday, April 24th will be the reg­ular monthly meeting of the Magrath Garden Club at 7:30 at the Magrath School. Topic for this month will be a pres­entation on "Organic Fertilizer". This will be a lecture and question & answer program. A crowd stood around the 100 foot diving tower at the fairgrounds, waiting for the featured performer. Finally, a feeble old man walked out, leaning on a cane. "Good evening," he said into the micro­phone. " I am 99 years old, and I am going to amaze you. I'll climb to the top of that tower and dive into this teeny, tiny tub of water. Are you ready?" Some people don't let ideas interrupt the easy flow of their conversation. DISTRICT HOME ECONOMIST NEWS Work-At-Home Schemes You may be interested in this warning from Alberta Consumer R Corporate Affairs. "$1000-$3000 per month stuffing envelopes." "Make money raising rabbits". "Women - SlOOs monthly for assembly work at home". Every year people respond to adds like these, hoping to add to their family income. Many are senior citizens, handicapped people, or mothers with young children, who can't work outside the home. Work—at-home schemes are very profitable for promoters. Unfortun­ately. if you answer ads offering large amounts of cash for work requiring no ex­perience, you will probably end up losing money instead of earning it. "Make thousands of dollars in your spare time! No experience needed! Address, stuff envelopes at home. Send stamped, addressed envelope". Instead of the expected envel­opes to stuff, people answering this ad during a recent investigation got a request of $8 - $25 just for the information about a money-making plan. This turned out to be the same scheme as the advertiser s - tricking other people into responding to a similar ad. Even worse, to continue with the plan would have cost hundreds of dollars more for advertising, postage and printing. "$500 monthly to raise rabbits for labs. We supply....". The first lot of breeding rabbits for this scheme had to be bought from the promoter for very high prices. If they lived and multiplied, the raisers had the problem of finding a buyer for the off­spring. Note that did not say he would buy them. The raisers often found themselves with animals that they could not sell at any price, and certainly not at the profit they were to expect. "Assemblers wanted. Make money making dolls part time. Earn $60 per 10 units. Material supplied". This Quebec company required a deposit of $120, plus refunds of the deposit and shipping charges, if the dolls were made by a certain date. Investigators answering this ad were not sent sufficient materials to complete the dolls according to the in­structions given. Even if they bought extra materials and met the conditions, the company returned the dolls and refused to pay, saying the dolls did not meet the company's standards. The makers were left to find their own customers for the dolls. There are many variations on the scams described here. They all have several things in common...They tell you that no experience is necessary, and promise huge profits fast....They claim the demand for your work is "guaranteed" or unlimited.... They request money for information or mat­erials before you can begin work....They give references - but don't include add­resses which let you check them out for yourself. If you want to work at home, be careful. Investigate before you invest time or money in any scheme. If it sounds too good to be true, chances are that it is. Remember to check local, reputable companies or stores if you have to buy something before starting work. From ideas to rabbits, you can prob­ably get better quality locally, and for a lower price. by Christine Poss, D.H.Ec. HANDIBUS FOR SENIORS A Handibus for Seniors. Do we need one? Magrath has been offered a handibus for a 6 months trial period. A committee has been set up to run the bus and determine if there is a need. The committee consists of 8 vol­unteer members. Chairperson - Shirley Saunders Vice - Chairperson - Fred Strate; Secretary­Treasurer - Shirley Clifton; 2 Directors - Glen Passey and Maxine Kraft; 3 Board Mem­bers - Donna Kearl, Stuart Norton, Charlotte Anderson or Robert Tanner. The bus will run at pre-determined times for the 6 months and some money will be required for expenses. A Bake Sale and Pull Board was held in conjunction with the Lion's Garage Sale. A big "thank you" to all the people who donated baked goods in­cluding the Magrath General Hospital and Diamond Willow Terrace; to those who gave cash donations; to Bob Arnold for the Ther­mos jug used on the Pull Board. The winner of the jug was Sheila Livingstone with 29c. A thank you to the ladies who ran the Bake Sale - LaVerne Critchfield, Maxine Kraft and Norma Arnold. Our next step is to obtain drivers. Because this is a trial period we are re­questing volunteer drivers for a few hours each week. A Class 4 with Medical is re­quired.
