Hinckley Scholarship from Brigham Young University. She is the daughter of Robert and Deborah Leishman. While in high school, Joan participated in the marching, jazz and concert bands; school council; and the sports of volleyball, soccer, basketball and gymnastics. She’s also interested in running, hiking, cross-country skiing and playing the clarinet, saxophone and bagpipes. Joan is one of 51 Gordon B. Hinckley scholars, chosen from 100 finalists. Congratulations Joan!!! In anticipation of a few people asking me where 1 got my glass basketball backboard, I decided to find out where it came from. I purchased it in 1986 from the school division and the following is what I found out... \.T. 1953 Glass Backboard In 1953, the “Big Gym" (now the Auditorium) was finished and needed Magrath’s first glass backboards to complete the facility. The following ladies raised $200 by selling chocolates, holding bake sales, and selling refreshments at boxing matches. The backboards were used in the Big Gym from 1953 until 1986, when new backboards and break-away rims were installed.
