The town irrigation system will be shut off as of Sunday, August 19, 2001. As the supply for household water comes from the same source as the irrigation, we are obliged to reduce that as well. Therefore, as of Monday, August 20, 2001, ALL OUTSIDE WATERING WILL BE BANNED until further notice. We ask that you co-operate fully on this to prevent the need for legislated compliance and enforcement. Also Equipment Return Day!! _____________BASKETBALL____________ Alberta Men Win Bronze Team Alberta captured the bronze medal with an 87-59 victory over New Brunswick in the Canada Summer Games held in London, Ontario. Magrath’s Jimmy Balderson led Alberta with 18 points while Jermaine Bucknor of Edmonton was next with 14. Darcy DayChief of Lethbridge contributed 12 points while Nick Baldwin of the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns added 10 points. Alberta was relegated to the bronze medal game with a tough 83-76 loss to Quebec, despite a 36- point effort by Balderson. Quebec went on to win the gold medal with a 76-65 victory over British Columbia.__________________________________ _______________FIREARMS______________ The Magrath Rod and Gun Club will conduct a Canadian Firearms Safety Course Saturday, August 25. This one-day course will be held in the club’s building, just off main street. Cost of the course is $60, which includes the instructor, a manual and lunch. Hohm fashioned rounds of 76 and 73 for a two-day 149 total to claim the men’s dub tide by six shots over Chris Saunders. Saunders carded rounds of 79 and 76 to finish with a 155. ;. In the senior men’s race Bryan Meldrum’s 152, after rounds of 73 and 79, was good for a won-shot win over 82-year-old Blair Sabey after he carded a 79­74- 153 total. In women’s action, Betty Orich recorded a double victory, claiming both the ladies and senior ladies’ crowns after respective 87’s gave her a two-day 174 total. NOTICE OF DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION FOR INTENSIVE LIVESTOCK OPERATION The Cardston County is in receipt of a Development Application from Remington Land & Cattle Company to operate an intensive livestock operation on the S.E. 12­1- 23-4. This operation will involve wintering/calving of cow calf pairs, as well as backgrounding, fattening and finishing calves. Total number of livestock to be approximately 1,500 head.
