Wednesday November 22,1995 SCHOOL NEWS: The Boy’s & Girl’s Volleyball season has ended. The boys made it to the semi-finals & received 3rd in overall. The girls travelled to Crowsnest but did not advance to the semi­finals. Basketball season has now started & the teams are picked. This year the Pandas will be Patricia Balderson, Kristyn Tanner, Danielle Rollingson, Karli Dahl, Meghann Dahl, Jody Bullock, Twila Grusendorf, Angela Miller, Sabrina Kinder, Natalie Mehew, and Aleesa Nelson. The Zeniths are Jess Zobell, Matt Johnson, Scott Clifton, Tom Alston, Eric Nordquist, Joseph Johnson, Eric Peterson, Chad Harris, Wes Gurney, Andy Beres & James Smith. Saturday Nov. 25th the cheerleaders are holding their mini cheer camp for all those from grades 2-9. The forms your child received are to be handed in by Thursday. The Pandas will be playing an exhibition game against ah Edmonton team this Friday @ 7:30. Everyone is invited to come & watch. Welcome back! It's been a long summer but now winter is here & we’re back to our favourite pastime - HOCKEY! Magrath Atom B’s, coached by Duke Wetherelt, Marvin Lee & Vince Harker, are: Layne Barnett, Kari Chipman, Jesse Harker, Kyle Harker, Adam Heath, Russell Johnson, Peter Lee, Dustin Mandel, Doug Mehew, Aaron Ragan, Chad Ratke, Cody Ririe, Denver Wetherelt. We have played 3 exhibition games; Oct. 21 we hosted Raymond & lost 4-9; Oct. 28th we travelled to Cardston and lost 7-5. Nov. 4th we hosted the Lethbridge Shockers, the game ended deadlocked 6-6. Nov. 11th, we played at home against Cardston, Magrath outshot Cardston 63-7 & came away with a 15-0 win. P.S. Thanks to Kari for the song, Thanks Duke from the 3 chocolate bar winners. Nov. 18, we travelled in the hurricane to Warner, only to find the arena dark, we waited for 1 hr. 45 min before we could start. We went on the wing 16-l.Sat. evening Nov. 18, we played in Magrath against the Lethbridge Lightning Team, it was a hard fight & we ended up with a 4-4 tie. Peter Lee was in net & faced 42 shots. Your Magrath Library Cards are ¿only good until April 1, 1996? After that time any patrons living in the M.D. will have to pay $40 a household of more for the System Library Services. Judyth Steward CRAFT SALE AND GARAGE SALE LIONS HALL, SATURDAY NOV. 25111 Violent wind gusts from a vigorous chinook blasting thru southern Alberta Saturday forced closure of Highway 3 between Monarch & Fort Macleod for several hours. Lethbridge weather specialist Elwyn Holmberg said winds got to a speed of 98 km, but were gusting up to 137 km just before 11 a.m. That's pokey when compared to the record of 171 km on Nov. 19, 1962. Here in Magrath we had store windows blown out, roofs, outhouses, turbines, eaves and shingles were blown away, some even lost swings, campers were toppled & rolled over, not to mention the number of trees that A cattleman forgot his keys, in the pickup and had to call a mechanic to open the locked door. The mechanic gave him a bill for $20. “I want it itemized,” insisted the cattleman. “Okay,” said the mechanic and wrote out “Opening door, $5. Know­ing how, $15.” decided to lay down on the job and of course our power shortage that lasted for a little over 2 hours. Nov. 18th in a 5-5 tie. The lead was established by the Stingers but with great determination Coaldale battled back. Magrath maintained & held the lead until Coaldale managed to tie with only 2 min to spare. A last minute rush by Coaldale was stopped cold by Connor Barnett & the game was saved. Jeff Ripley & Kit Folks minded the nets in the 1st & 2nd periods and kept Coaldale at by. NEWS The Nov. 1st meeting was held at the home of Dorothy Barnett. Marie did a lesson of the #1 Beatitude: Blessed are the Poor in Spirit Because Theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven", we can only bring back to God what he brings to us. Reports were given on the Fall Supper and update on the New Dayton Fall Supper. Report was given on the successful Pumpkin Social that was held at the Diamond Willow Terrace. $45 was sent to the Food Bank - roll call from the October meeting. The Adult Xmas Party will be held at the Lodge on Dec. 9th at 6 p.m. - a $5 gift exchange will also be held for those who want to participate. Please phone Lydia Tricsli or Joann Takacs.
