Eleven Fire Fighters from Milo, Lomond, and Arrowwood were taking part in training. Dwayne Hill and Stu Birch from the Vulcan Department were the instructors. Local fire fighters Tom Nelson and Leigh Vooys exiting a “burning building” after a safe rescue. Local students included Leigh Vooys, Blahne Sukut, Ken Vooys, Tom Nelson, Ian Godkin, and Robert and Darlene Phillips. Topics covered in this first training session included: • Protective clothing Fire behaviour Knots Fire fighter safety and survival Radio communications SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) • Structural search and rescue techniques Fire fighters donning equipment for entering “smoke-filled building”. Barb has accepted a position with Chinook Arch Regional Library System. In 1990 Barb Godkin began her tenure as Librarian for the Milo Municipal Library. During the past 12 years Barb has guided our library through many changes and improvements. Some of these changes are... the Milo Library becoming part of the Chinook Arch Regional Library System. Being a member of “CARLS” brought many benefits to our library; from Summer Program ideas and help, to the ordering of materials and the System’s weekly courier service, speeding up deliveries of new and interlibrary exchange material. .. .the introduction of computer use, first in the administration field, then for patrons’ use and finally the “on line” internet connection, that virtually gives Milo Municipal Library patrons access, not only to Library material in the Chinook Arch Regional Library System, but Library material all over the world. .. .also the Friends of the Milo Municipal Library Society was organized to help with the funding of our library. Barb was our library’s representative on the Chinook Arch Regional Library System’s board until 2002, when Ellen Watt volunteered to take her place. The Milo Municipal Library Board thank Mrs. Godkin for her dedication to the Milo Library and her care and concern for better service to and for the library’s patrons. At this time we also thank Anne Prentice for her work as library assistant, We welcome Joanne Monner as our new librarian. Children are already required to have them for operating any type of power water craft, including boats. You must be 16 to operate a seadoo and, if you are between 12 & 16, you can operate a power boat when supervised, but you also need the card.. (If you were born after April 1, 1983, you must have this card NOW to operate any type of boat or seadoo). Those born after 1983 will not need the card for larger boats until 2009, but why wait?
