A haze had covered the valley And was creeping down through the light When we discovered the view had changed And just since overnight. The elevators to the south of us That marked the site of Queenstown Had disappeared into the fog. Or had they been tom down ? We wondered if we were seeing things Or was it an illusion ? But as the dawn spread over all We came to this conclusion. That the tall and mighty sentinels That told of prairie places Had disappeared in one great rush And were laid upon their faces. The haze was thick and when we looked We could see the various sections Tumbled about with broken walls That twisted in all directions. On many another foggy mom They had hovered above the cloud Seeming to be of another world With the haze as their milky shroud. They meant to the prairie people The symbol of their wealth And it saddens us to see them go With such an act of stealth. The tall and rugged structures Have been a beacon to us all And many a lonely traveller Has depended on their call . For across the wide flat landscape They showed the way to town And never failed to welcome Now the prairie has lost it's crown. But that is the way of progress It shows no sign of remorse It just goes on to the next great thing And never goes off course. To all who made Steve’s 50th Birthday So Special ! Flowers in time for Easter! Once again, Milo students will be selling flowers in time for Easter. The Grade 5 and 6’s are raising money to go towards their trip to the Edmonton Legislative Buildings in the month of April. This year, in addition to mums and lilies, we are also selling Martha Washington geraniums. All plants will be coming in a 6" pot (same as last year), which is covered in coloured foil and enclosed in a plastic sleeve. Hopefully, you will be hearing from one of our students soon, but in the event that you are not contacted, please feel free to call the school and leave a message with Mrs. Reynolds or Miss Branigan. We expect the flowers to be delivered to the school in the first week of April. All orders must absolutely be in to us by March 7th. The meeting opened with the Secretary reading the minutes of the last meeting and also the last annual meeting. The Treasurer then gave her report. The President gave a report for the past year. Bridge and Crib has continued but Bingo was dropped due to lack of support. Over the past year coffee was served at the Centre on Mondays and any other time that the cafe was closed, a heartfelt thank you to all volunteers who came in every Monday to serve the coffee. The finances raised by this endeavour have certainly helped the Centre’s finances for the past year. As the Cafe has now decided to stay open on a Monday, there will be no coffee served at the Centre on that day. A social afternoon held last April was very successful, with visitors coming from Arrowwood and Lomond. Tea and coffee was also served on the days of the School Sign dedication ceremonies, which everyone seemed to enjoyed, not only for the warm beverages but also meeting old friends. The Executive and Directors would like to thank everyone for their time given, financial donations and support over the past year, without this help we would have no Drop-In Centre. As there was no new business arising from the previous minutes, the next item was the election of officers for the next year. As there were no offers to take on the positions the present executive agreed to continue in office. They are, President - Iris Gough, Vice President - Alice Bartsch, Secretary - Shirley Wilson, Treasurer - Brenda Prentice, Board of Directors Audrey Thompson, Florence Bushell, Helen Thompson, Doris Clements. A notice was received from the Lomond Seniors Centre , inviting Milo Seniors to Social Afternoon at the Lomond Senior Centre on Thursday March 15 2 - 5p.m. If anyone is interested in going please call in to the drop-in and put your name on the list on the notice board. Transportation will then be arranged for those who wished to go. Crib-Mon - Mar. 5th & 19th 7:30 p.m. Bridge — every Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. The public health nurse will be in on Wed March 14th 1 -2 p.m. Just a reminder that members can borrow jigsaw puzzles from the Centre. Also that there is a selection of book from the Milo Library which members can take, please sign the form when you take and return the books. Did you know that there are a number of large print books available at the library, and for those who find holding these books (which are heavy), the library also has a number of very good books on tape and can also order in more from other libraries? This is tire 10th year the league has run and tor the lirst time Arrowwood joined Champion, Lomond, Milo and Vulcan in the league. The teams played a round robin schedule with the lop lour teams making the playoffs. Milo ended up on top with a 4 and 0 record followed by Vulcan. Champion and Lomond with Arrowwood missing the cut. The two semi-final games featured Milo defeating Lomond and Vulcan getting past Champion, thus setting up a Milo-Vulcan rematch of last years final. In the final the outcome was never really in doubt as Milo put up a big steal of 5 in the second end en route to a 10-2 victory and the championship. This is the ninth year that Milo has been able to win the championship. January 15, 2001 at 7 p.m. at the Village Office. Present were Mayor Bath. Councillor Voovs. Councillor Whaley and Municipal Administrator Dorothy Way. The minutes of the meeting held on Monday, December 18, 2000 were read. Mayor Bath moved tire adoption of these minutes. Councillor Vooys advised that the tractor needs a new battery and that he will pick one up in Lethbridge. The wood syphon at Arrowwood will be disposed at the Milo landfill, by digging a trench and then it will be covered with soil and seeded with grass. A access road will be put in to the lagoons for the Village of Milo. The fence line will be moved to the north
