The attention oi the faculty and the student body is directed to the retirement of a most capable and respected member of our staff. At the close of this year, Mr. W. A. Pea will have completed thirty-six years on the faculty of the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. As a co-worker for many years, I have regarded him highly for his loyalty, perception, humor, under­standing, and hard work. We shall all continue to appreciate and remember him, not only as an effective teacher, but as a colleague who always exhibited that human element, as opposed to a starched manner. All of us thank Mr. Rea for all he has done these many years —• not only for his dedicated teaching, but for his work with the students in extra-curricular activities as well. Mr. Rea, the gentleman with the sense of humor in Room 218, is leaving after thirty-six years of teaching here. Mr. Rea was horn in Rapid City, Manitoba. He received his public Softool education at Rivers, iater look his teacher training at Portage la Prairie, and was granted a Bachelor's Degree in Arts at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. He taught for seven and a hall years in Manitoba before moving to Medicine Hat where he taught for three years. In 1932, Mr. Rea began his career in the Lethbridge Collegiate. Although he has taught most subjects, his greatest love has always been English Literature, and his students were captivated by his reading of a poem or a Shakespearean play. Mr. Rea has always been interested in drama and in the 1930’s pro­duced some very successful plays. He is also well-known for his tmtiring efforts to make curling the popular high school sport it is today. Wight after night, Mr. Rea could be found at the curling rink instructing a beginner, or discussing strategy with the more experienced curler. In 1962 he was named "Sportsman of the Year” for his work in promoting curling in Southern Alberta. Another honor came last year when Mr. Rea was presented with a Centennial Medal for his outstanding contribution to education. Mr. Rea is a teacher who never needed the paraphernalia of the modern school. He has seen the development of the school system from the pioneer stage to the present — and is equally at home in both. He is a “teacher” in the true sense of the word. Certainly the LCI will miss him. Best wishes go with him and his wife for a long and happy retirement. Pngc Six MAS. MYERS mss. sc/agiu JOHN MACKINTOSHIN MEMORIAM Mr. Bussord On Sovcmbcr -5. 1967, Mr. L. II. Htissard, the superintendent of the Lethbridge public school system, passed away. Mr. Htissard screed in the capacity of superin­tendent in Lethbridge for eighteen years prior to his death. His sincerity and his devotion to his duties earned the respect of both students and teachers. We at L.C. 1. and ail of Iwthbridge will try hard to main­tain the high standards of education which Mr. Htissard set for us. IN MEMORIAM Charles Price Richard Burns Sergeant Charles Price and Gunner Richard burns, both 17-year-old members of the 18th Field Artillery, were involved in a fatal accident when the military truck they were driving overturned. The accident occurred in Wainwright, where both boys were participating in the annual artillery competition. C harles and Rick have left behind them many cherished memories for their families, friends and all of us at L. C. I.Your student council is the group thot is in charge of the fun part of school life. Wc hope this has been a memorable year for you. and that you will be able to look on it with o smile or a chuckle, a memory of excitement, or a feeling of pride that you went to the ICI. We started a number of new events this year to add variety and a few surprises to the regular activities. To mix chaos with the usual confusion of the first week, we started the year off with a Frosh Week, making the bewildered Frosh find out quickly what high school is like. At the end of the week, a barbeque on the field and a huge donee put the froshting on the cake and got school spirit soaring before most people had even bought their books. During football season, we struck fear into the hearts of the foe with a torchlight parade and fireworks in the blacked-out stadium, before our Roms proceeded to wipe out the other teams and win the League Cham­pionship once again. For many students the highlight of the year wos our first invitational basketball tournament, with teams from throughout western Canada competing. All day you could feel the excitement in the air as each arriving team (and cheerleading squad) was carefully rated by the eager fans. Our pep rally that afternoon wos heard by one late team when they were still two blocks away. Just before Easter, Whoop-Up Daze suddenly struck the school. Overnight the halls were transformed into scenes of the wild west, with square dancing, funerals in the halls and chuckwogon races being common events. Everyone, including the teachers, got in the fun of dressing up, going to the pancake lunch, ar.d joining in all the races and contests. One raiding party, after getting too much moonshine from Mad Mary's, even captured the office, so Mr. Neville retaliated by dismissing school early and encouraging everyone to come out to the dance with the Edmonton band we had specially brought down. These, together with our regular donees. Pep Rallies, sports, ploys, and other activities were tremendously successful, thanks to your participation and enthusiasm. It was good to see how well the whole extra-curricular progrem was supported this year, as often it is in these extra activities that you con develop your own special interests. Of course those who were most deeply involved gained the most, but everyone who came out enjoyed himself and gained something. Wc hope that by giving you a well balanced school life, that wc have contributed to your success in some of the more serious aspects of school. We also hope that the social life and recreation here help you to use the leisure time you will have in the future. It has been a very enjoyable and rewarding experience for those of us who hove served os your Execu­tive. I would personally like to thank the other members of the Executive for everything that they did. I was lucky to have an exceptionally capable and enthusiastic group to work with, and it was often the efforts of one of them that made things work out. We hope we have given each of you, and the ICI, at least one thing that has been enjoyable and which is valuable, not just this year, but in the years to come. The yearbook staff has attempted to record these events in Spotlite '67 • '68. Numerous changes have been made in the Spotlite this year. Class and club pictures and candids are presented in more interesting arrange­ments. I would like to thank the Spotlite staff and our advisor, Mrs. MacPherson, for a job well dene. A bouquet should also go to Mr. Longair and the Photog- rapy Club. It has been a pleasure to work with them. I am grateful to the Students' Council and the students themselves, for they are the substance of the yearbook. For many of us, this year marks the end of one challenge and the beginning of another. These have been valuable years — years of learning to live with people in a world which we will soon have css part in shaping. BROWN, Frances Ann franco*' future plan* are undecided, but she would like to ollcnd the University of Lethbridge, last sum­mer France* holidayed at Rosen Lake and learned how to water ski. BROWN, Gerald Raymond Jerry, who is a Lethbridge Herald paper bay. enjoy* corresponding with his pen pals and swimming. He wishes that he had joined some school club* while in ICI. He feel* hi* greatest achievement was get­ting a high school education. Jerry's future plan* arc working for AGT. BYRNE, Dianne Marie "Byrnie” i* one of our cheerleader*. She play* drum* in the orchestra, and sing* in the Soulhminster Junior Girl* Choir, ond the LCI Glee Club. She love* to ride horse*, and will* her driving ability to future truck- driver*. Her ambition i* to become an airline stewardess. SOX. CARLSON. Dennis Rac Dennis, the driver of a '64 Valiant convertible, plan* to enter technical school in Calgary next year but in the meantime, he is working at Mc­Guire's Men's Wear a* a salesman, like mony people, he wishes that he had done more homework. CARNINE, Dorothy Jean Dorothy is interested in Droma and won the Droma 10 scholarship in grade 10. She is an active member of the Lethbridge Playgoer* and ha* participated in drama festival*. She work* a* a cashier at Sofewoys, a* well as teaching piano. Dorothy plan* to continue her education either in B.C. or Edmonton. SXK CARPENTER. David Bruce Dave's main interest* arc living, breathing, eating and Latin. He is also an enthusiastic member of the Chinook Road Rally Club and a* a result spent last summer driving around in hi* blue '57 Chev. Hi* future plan is University in the foil. CLARK, Colleen Adel Colleen, a newcomer from Medicine Mat ond a Room Representative, ad­mire* the school spirit of LCI. She likes wotcr-skiing and enjoy* her cabin of St. Mary's. Colleen wishes she had participated in more school sports this year. SOX. CLARK, Frederick Howard "The original mistake was inventing the calender. This led, in due course, •o having Mondays." Employed by Canadian furriers, Fred enjoys golf, ping-pong and pool. He is planning to fake Computer Technology at Calgary Tech., and is vice-president of McKillop Hi-C. BOURASSA, Donald John Don, the super defenseman of the Lethbridge Sugar Kings, doesn't seem to find enough time to fit in swiming, golf, tennis, bull riding and the frequent hockey practices ond, of course, studying. Next year he plans to enter Education at a Uni­versity. BOWES. Nickolas Edward Nick's future plans include appren­ticing as a mechanic. At present, working on his car and working in a service station occupy much of his time. BROCKLESBY. Robert Lea lea, who feels that his greotest achievement was reaching Grade 12, is a member of the Curling Club, OcMolay ar.d Fatua. Last summer lea worked at Eaton's. Hilary works ct Kresgc's. She feels it is a great accomplishment just making it to Grade 12. Her future plans are to become on air* lino stewardess. COGHLIN, Patricia Anne The future secs Pat taking nursing in Colgary. She plays the piano in a dance band on weekends and works part time at the Alberto Meat Market. Poising French 30 in six weeks at the Junior College last summer makes Pot proud. COHEN. Ooncal Harry Don's Hovscleogue basketball team did well this year. He was a mem ber of Ram's Football team and par­ticipated in Weight Lifting Club. Don works cs a Basketball Referee for the city. Next year he plans to attend Simon Fraser. CONSTABLE. Kenneth William Ken is an avid member of the LCI Chess Club. His main interests in­clude fishing, stamp collecting, and sports of all kinds. Grode 12 rotes as his pet peeve. He plans to enter forestry in the fall. COPELAND, Robert Newton Bob is the vice-president of the Chinook Road Rally Club. His favor* ife saying is censored. His future plans include passing Grade 12. Last summer he worked on a farm in Saskatchewan. COURT, Dale Keith "Load us not into temptation, tell us where it is and we'll find it our­selves!" Dole is a service attend­ant at the Downtown Shell. His pet peeve is teachers. Dale's future plans include UCLA. Good luck Dale! CRITCHFIELD, Arthur Barry Borry, who is an active member of our Photography Club, visited Expo 67 lost summer. Lucky Arlene spent lost summer in Norway. What a way to livo! Next year she plans to attend U of A, prob­ably in the Faculty of Arts. DAVIDS. Barry Philip Barry enjoys spending his time do­ing such relaxing things as steeping and loafing. In one of his ener­getic hursts he water skis or girl watches. A major in moth and computers at the U of A arc among Barry's future plans. DAWSON, Lorimer Bruce A real outdoors man, Lorie enjoys skating, hiking and booting. He finds himself trapped indoors on weekends of Eaton's warehouse where he works part time. Next year Lorie plans to attend the U of L, mc.joring in Psychology. DcKLERK. Corrie "Core" is a cheerful girl who enjoys boskclball, swimming, baseball, and horseback riding. Her ono dislike of LCI is all the stairs. Next year will sec Corrie at the Junior College or U of L. DERBYSHIRE. William Robert Bob thinks the LCI would be a great place if it wasn't a school! A port time job at Stubbs Pharmacy, a blitx t>u99y* horses, and swimming fake up most of his time. Next year— FREEDOM. DEWAR, Agnes Lillian Agnes is o member ond leader in the Wrennctte Corps. She also enjoys reading in her spare time. In the future she plans to enter nursing in the armed forces. DIXON, Alice Irene Swimming, tennis and watching hockey arc high on Alice's list of enjoyments. For a more serious activity she teaches piano at Prug- gers. Next year Alico hopes to attend University. Page Seventeen n a t e s DOGTEROM, Linda Marlene Linda's post glories include being o 4-H trip winner, being president of McNally 4H Sewciablcs for 3 years, and being a star player for tho Clipper Queens. Next year Undo plans to take Education at U. of l. DONALDSON, James Robert Jim enjoys coyote hunting and driv­ing his 4-cylinder Beaumont. He feels the most worthwhile thing he did in high school was gotting back up to the drafting room before tho four-minute break bell rong. His favorite suying is "Curl your tongue, knave." EDWARDS. Larry Douglas lorry is the all-round sportsman of ICI. Among other things, he's presi­dent of the school badminton club, a wing-back on the Rams football team and a defenceman on the league leading Kinsmen Warriors, lorry plans to enter a General Arts course ot Taylor U., Indiana. EDWARDS, Sally Ann Sally's Spare time is filled with piano lessons, working at the Fish & Chip Shop and being the secretary of Seminary. She likes teachers with a sense of humor. Next year she plans to enter nursing at the U of A in Edmonton. SOX. DUNCAN. Dennis David Dennis is a hard worker with on eye to the future. And in his future will be Medicine ot the U of A. He plays hockey for tho Kinsmen War­riors and works part time ot Union Milk. FATUA. DUNCAN. Robert Roy This boy has a reol eye for girls, but takes an interest in cars, swim­ming and water skiing as well. To any well-meaning but "often-in- trouble" student Bob would like to pass on his ability to fast-talk his way out of anything. DWYER. Michael William Mike is a thrill-seeker who enjoys tumbling, weightlifting and working on BOTH of his cars. At present he is employed by Oliver Chemical. He plans to continue his education at the l.J.C. next fall. EARL, Gaye Anne Gaye, who often soys "good grief", would like to attend the University of Californio and take interior dec­orating. Gaye enjoys skiing and reading and is a member of the Arthur Murray Donee Studio. Tennis Club and Art Club. EARL, Malcolm Samuel Malcolm, who hails from Edmonton, was one of the people to sco Expo lost summer. He says his main in­terests ere basketball and going out on weekends. After graduating Molcolm plans to attend college and then university. ERAIS, Tivador John Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others can't keep it from themselves. Tiv, who drives a '65 Mustang, likes ploying hockey and working on cars ot lakoview Texaco Service Station. After this year Tiv plans on attending Edmonton Tech. ERICKSON, Brian Janies Brian, our Vice-President, is the chairman for the Model UN. Brian's other interests include World Affairs, Science and managing a teen band. Brian is also a salesman ot Eaton's. Brian plans on attending the U of A to fake Political Sciences. ERICKSON, Patrick Stephen Vic is a member of A Boys Basket- ball and also enjoys riding horses and skiing. Ho finds our cafeteria very inadequate. In the future Vic plans on being a veterinarian. EZAKI, Kenneth Toro "When you come to the end of the rope, knot it and hang on." Ken, who used to work at the El Rancho, says his pet pcovo is Chevs. Ken has a fine sense of humor which holps him to make friends easily. FAZIO, Christine Chris is one of our great athlotcs. She is on active member of tho Rangers, captain of the school volley- boll team, and secretary-treasurer of the LCI Badminton Club. As well, Chris enjoys camping, stockcar rac­ing and
