State Flu Meet Is Put Off Till After Holidays

• Dr. T.D. Tuttle, state health commissioner, has cancelled the scheduled meeting of health officers for next week in Seattle• In a letter to Dr. J.B. Anderson, Spokane health officer, Dr. Tuttle advises the meeting will take place after the effects of the holidays becomes available• In a reply letter back to Dr. Tuttle, Dr. Anderson states his belief that the modified quarantine has the support of the people (albeit not the theatre managers)• There will be a health inspector posted at each of the department stores of the city of Spokane• Policy: Crowding of shoppers and presence of children (unnecessarily) are prohibited• Stores found in violation of the health orders will be closed• The health department has issued 1,500 doses of the vaccine to the public, and not one person who has completed the five day treatment has contracted the “flu”• Today there has not been a single case of influenza or pneumonia reported to the health department; this is a record• Yesterday there were 32 new cases of influenza, 1 death, and 3 new cases of pneumonia reported to the health department; this was the lowest death record since the epidemic began• Theatre managers are said to have retained attorneys for the fight against the health office orders; they have not brought their petition to the attention of the health office as yet, and have taken no definitive actionNewspaper article1,
