Monday's Reports On The Epidemic More Encouraging

*Some stores are not adhering to the 6:30pm closing time order; at yesterday’s Board of Health meeting, members agreed that Mayor Perry D. Thompson, as head of the Police Department, may use policemen to better enforce this order.*The Pawtucketville Isolation Hospital originally had 8 graduate nurses, but two were recalled by the State Infirmary at Tewksbury.*The third ward of the Isolation Hospital will be open as soon as it acquires more nurses to run it*At the Board of Health meeting, Dr. Brunelle cited parts of the law regarding reportable diseases. They are actionable: “Inasmuch as influenza prevailing in epidemic form has been listed by the State Board of Health as a disease dangerous to the public health, it is well as [typo in original] this time that the public in general should be advised as to the principles of the law governing such disease. To wit: (a) When a physician or a householder knows that a person is infected with a disease dangerous to public health, he shall immediately give notice to the office of the board of health.“Consequently all such information in regard to influenza must be communicated forthwith to the local board of health.“(b) If a disease which is dangerous to the public health breaks out in a town, or if a person is infected with any such disease, the board of health shall immediately provide such hospital or place of reception, and such nurses and other assistance and necessities as is judged best for his accommodation and for the safety of the inhabitants, and the same shall be subject to the regulations of the board of health; otherwise the house or place in which he remains shall be subject to the regulations of such a board, and if necessary, persons in the neighborhood may be removed.*Brunelle added that it is the duty and in the best interest of the public to comply with these rules. The rules were adopted at the meeting. *At the Friday 10/11 Board of Health meeting, the board asked the Old Middlesex Tavern (which houses Middlesex Village railroad workers) was asked either “to be put in sanitary condition” or to close within 48 hours.
