10/12 “Influenza cases make new increase,” 10/12/1918, p.1 *Henry B. Endicott, Manager of the Massachusetts Committee on Public Safety and member of the Emergency Health Committee, sent a telegram to Mayor Thompson, suggesting that he order churches closed this Sunday 10/13. All churches closed on Sunday 10/13 by order of board of health. Note: later articles mention church leaders holding meetings and deciding to keep their churches closed; unclear if they were merely complying with a board of health request to close or if there were ordered to do so.*Rules for accepting patients at the Pawtucketville Isolation Hospital: “The tentative rules state specifically that the hospital is only to be used during this epidemic for influenza or pneumonia patients where the disease is in acute form. Also $1.50 a day is to be charged for the care of the patients, and the care of all patients at the hospital shall be in the hands of the doctors and nurses stationed there.” Also, the hospital’s title is “Temporary Isolation Hospital for Influenza Cases.”*Also at the meeting of the Board of Health, attendees deliberated as to whether a local or outside physician should be in charge of the isolation hospital.
