Inoculate Now, Urges Dr. Leary

• Dr. Timothy Leary believes the inoculation of the public will help fight the influenza epidemic • Dr. Leary: “People should know that they can guard their health against influenza and pneumonia of the present prevalent type by getting inoculated with the serum. They have been told often enough, but are dilatory in taking steps to get treated with the serum. Every inoculation lessens the extent of the disease and helps to lower the mortality rate.”• Dr. Leary: “I cannot place too much emphasis on the value of convalescent serum. Its use, as far as the medical profession has been able to observe, has been attended with encouraging results. It appears to be highly beneficial in treating influenza. Daily research is opening up greater possibilities for its use and a better knowledge of what can be expected from it. I urge the public to find an opportunity and get inoculated.”• Dr. James H. Strong believes wakes and funerals are two of the most common ways to spread infection. Dr. Strong: “We should take immediate and stringent measures against wakes. People come into contact with the deadliest germs on these occasions and are perilously exposed to infection all the time they are present. Most of the serious cases that came in my experience were persons who were exposed to and became tainted with infection at funerals. This source of danger exists yet although warnings have been sent out against it.”• Dr. Strong believes streetcars in East end of Boston should be washed down with soap and water.Newspaper article
