Flu Victims Must Be Looked After

• A self-described flu expert, Dr. F.C. Myers, writes to editors of the Chronicle• Myers states, “My large experience with the influenza in the east several years ago may be of some benefit to the city....it is an old disease, originating from European countries. It travels fast, and attacks people in large crowds and public places first...”• Dr. F.C. Myers further writes, in part, “Middle-aged and healthy people are more apt to develop the disease...the majority of cases begin to decline in three to five days...the patient should be put to bed in an airy room, food discontinued for 24 hours, proper disinfectants used to the air passages, and remedies that have been found to act as specifics in this trouble administered.”• Dr. Myers had come into contact with disease in Michigan saying “it is always safest to isolate cases immediately after contracting the disease.”Newspaper article
