Comorbilidades asociadas a la diabetes mellitus tipo II: causas, consecuencias y prevalencia en adultos mayores.

Diabetes mellitus type II is a major global public health problem and is currently a chronic, non-communicable disease that is rapidly becoming an epidemic in the 21st century, with around 90-95% of people with diabetes having type diabetes II. Therefore, we are going to analyze the comorbidity associated with type II diabetes mellitus: causes, consequences and prevalence in older adults. Its importance lies in identifying the comorbidities, characteristics and health needs of the elderly, to prevent or delay complications. For the present investigation, the descriptive-quantitative and retrospective cross-sectional bibliographic methodology with documentary design was used. As a result, it was found that in the different populations the Consequences that patients with this pathology present most frequently are chronic renal failure, retinopathies, depression, ischemia, cardiovascular diseases and arterial hypertension, however, in a lesser proportion we find gingival Porphyromonas and hypoacusis; As for the different risk factors, obesity, poor diet and physical inactivity, sedentary lifestyle, hereditary patterns among others that lead to the development of the disease were determined, for which it was concluded that there is variation in the prevalence of  diabetes mellitus type II in old people adults between the different countries, in most of the studies they affirm that as the years pass its prevalence increases, as it is Venezuela in 2014 it is 8.4% and in 2018 it increases to 12.3%.La diabetes mellitus tipo II es un importante problema de salud pública mundial que actualmente es una enfermedad crónica no transmisible convirtiéndose rápidamente en una epidemia en el siglo XXI ya que alrededor del 90 al 95% de las personas con diabetes tiene la diabetes tipo II. Por lo cual vamos a analizar la comorbilidad asociada a la diabetes mellitus tipo II: causas, consecuencias y prevalencia en adultos mayores. Su importancia radica en identificar las comorbilidades, características y necesidades de salud del adulto mayor, para prevenir o retrasar las complicaciones. Para la presente investigación se empleó la metodología de tipo bibliográfico transversal descriptivo-cuantitativo y retrospectivo con diseño documental. Obteniendo como resultado que en las diferentes poblaciones las consecuencias que con mayor frecuencia presentan los pacientes con esta patología son  insuficiencia renal crónica, retinopatías , depresión ,  isquemia, enfermedades cardiovasculares y la hipertensión arterial, sin embargo, en una menor proporción encontramos la Porphyromonas gingivales e hipoacusia; en cuanto a los diferentes factores de riesgo se determinó la obesidad, la mala alimentación e inactividad física, el sedentarismo, patrones hereditarios  entre otros que  conllevan al desarrollo de la  enfermedad, por lo cual se llegó a la conclusión de que hay una variación en la  prevalencia de la diabetes mellitus tipo II entre los diferentes países , en la mayoría de los estudios afirman que a medida que pasan los años incrementa su prevalencia, como lo es Venezuela en el 2014 es del 8,4% y en el año 2018 se incrementa a un 12,3%. &nbsp
