A preceding article traced the history of the text of Isaiah 26, 17.18 which manifests in a very clear way the dialectical relationship between Scripture and tradition. While the Sacred Book is venerated as a norm supposed to be inviolable, the communities which refer to it continually remodel it in order to adapt it to the evolution of their beliefs. In the case of the text mentioned here, the most fundamental modifications go back to a very early date where quotations or commentaries are lacking. It is thus essentially through textual history that the interpretation becomes apparent.
